Pactos de carácter patrimonial en las uniones de hecho: un estudio de la cuestión desde la perspectiva de la experiencia jurídica española
2019
This paper studies the matter of the validity of patrimonial agreements in common-law relationships in Spanish Law
Vectors and Vector Fields
2012
The purpose of this book is to explain in a rigorous way Stokes’s theorem and to facilitate the student’s use of this theorem in applications. Neither of these aims can be achieved without first agreeing on the notation and necessary background concepts of vector calculus, and therein lies the motivation for our introductory chapter.
Full configuration interaction calculation of singlet excited states of Be3
2004
The full configuration interaction (FCI) study of the singlets vertical spectrum of the neutral beryllium trimer has been performed using atomic natural orbitals [3s2p1d] basis set. The FCI triangular equilibrium structure of the ground state has been used to calculate the FCI vertical excitation energies up to 4.8 eV. The FCI vertical ionization potential for the same geometry and basis set amounts to 7.6292 eV. The FCI dipole and quadrupole transition moments from the ground state are reported as well. The FCI electric quadrupole moment of the X (3)A(1) (') ground state has been also calculated with the same basis set (Theta(zz)=-2.6461 a.u., Theta(xx)=Theta(yy)=-1/2Theta(zz)). Twelve of …
Pac-Man Josephson junctions: useful trigonometric puzzles?
2021
Abstract Rather interesting trigonometric equations arise when considering a Josephson junction obtained by embedding a Pac-Man shaped superconducting island in between two superconducting electrodes. In the present work we unfold these equations, written in terms of the superconducting phase difference between the two electrodes, and find the current-phase relation and the maximum superconducting current of the Josephson junction network. The solution of the trigonometric equations defining the superconducting current state of the system can be proposed to advanced high-school students or to undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary lecture.
A Hypergraph Based Framework for Intelligent Tutoring of Algebraic Reasoning
2013
The translation of word problems into equations is one of the major difficulties for students regarding problem solving. This paper describes both a domain-specific knowledge representation and an inference engine based on hypergraphs that permits intelligent student supervision of this stage of the solving process. The framework presented makes it possible to simultaneously: a) represent all potential algebraic solutions to a given word problem; b) keep track of the student’s actions; c) provide automatic remediation; and d) determine the current state of the resolution process univocally. Starting from these ideas, we have designed an intelligent tutoring system (ITS). An experimental eva…
Experimental demonstration of the physics of resonant cavities
2005
We describe an undergraduate experiment that demonstrates the physics of cavity resonators. A mobile wall lets students alter the position of the nodes, thus changing the mode pattern. The nodal structure is made apparent by placing a metallic plate at different positions inside the cavity. A technique for dielectric characterization also is introduced, which helps students understand the boundary conditions in dielectrics, as well as highlighting the characteristics of fields in cavities.
An experiment to study the structure of the focal volume in apertured focusing systems
2001
We present a simple experiment, specifically designed for students of undergraduate optics courses, where the influence of an aperture stop position on the three-dimensional structure of the focal volume of focusing systems is studied. The experiment, which involves only simple optical elements, permits an undergraduate student to generate different focal structures by simply axially displacing the aperture stop.
Introductory Quantum Physics Courses using a LabVIEW multimedia module
2007
We present the development of a LabVIEW multimedia module for introductory Quantum Physics courses and our experience in the use of this application as an educational tool in learning methodologies. The program solves the Time Dependent Schrodinger Equation for arbitrary potentials. We describe the numerical method used for solving this equation, as well as some mathematical tools employed to reduce the calculation time and to obtain more accurate results. As an illustration, we present the evolution of a wave packet for three different potentials: the repulsive barrier potential, the repulsive step potential, and the harmonic oscillator. This application has been successfully integrated in…
Teaching and Learning of Algebra
2015
Topic Study Group 9 aimed to bring together researchers, developers and teachers who investigate and develop theoretical accounts of the teaching and learning of algebra. The group sought both empirically grounded contributions focussing on the learning and teaching of algebra in diverse classrooms settings, the evolution of algebraic reasoning from elementary through university schooling as well as theoretical contributions throwing light on the complexities involved in teaching and learning of algebra. Prospective contributors were requested to address one or more of the following themes: early algebra, use of ICT in algebra classrooms, proof and proving in algebra, problem solving, semio…
